Atlantic Canada's leading chamber choir, an auditioned ensemble of dedicated singers directed by Jeff Joudrey and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
About This Cause
Founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Jeff Joudrey, the choir performs an extensive repertoire covering all periods and styles. Camerata has a reputation for performance excellence that sets a high standard, even in a province known for its rich musical tradition. The choir performs at least five concerts each year, including collaborative performances with chamber orchestra ensembles, Symphony Nova Scotia and other musicians. Since 2001 Camerata has been the core choir of the 75-voice Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus, which usually performs two concerts a year including a Christmas performance of Handel's Messiah. Recent Successes: 2014 Premiered new works with Pro Coro Canada at Podium 2014 in Halifax 2010: 1st Place in National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs (Mixed Voice Chamber Choirs Category) Healey Willan Grand Prize Winners (Amateur choir that gives the most convincing performance in musicianship, technique and program.) 2008: Winner of Galaxie Rising Star Prize in the CBC Choral Competition.
