Mission Statement
All women and their children have the right to live a life free of sexual and domestic violence. We will provide protection, support, safer options and advocacy toward the elimination of violence against women. ______________________________________________________________ Violence against women occurs across all communities regardless of race, ethnicity, economic background, gender, indigenous status, sexual orientation, identity, disAbility or faith. We recognize that groups of women including women who live in poverty, immigrant women, Indigenous women, Francophone women, and women with disAbilities face additional barriers, racism and oppression; Violence against women is a cycle that is rooted in and reflects patriarchal attitudes and the economic structure in society; Children’s lives are impacted by exposure to abuse and violence. Their needs are specific and distinct from the needs of their parents. Violence against women is a community responsibility and is not a private matter. All levels of government and all members of society share in the responsibility to eliminate violence and to work toward women’s empowerment and equality rights. Adequate funding must be provided and legislation and processes must reflect women’s right to safety and justice. As a feminist, AR/AO organization, Lanark County Interval House works towards a society in which women are empowered to make informed choices and where it is demonstrated that all genders are equal participants regardless of race, ethnicity, economic background, gender, sexual orientation, disAbility, or faith. We value harm reduction and trauma informed approach; therefore we support, validate and respond to women as they choose. Violence against women is a criminal offence that violates women’s rights, silences women and limits their choices. It is everyone’s right to receive protection and justice regardless of the relationship of the parties involved, or where the violence occurs.
