About This Cause
Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan Inc. (LDAS) has been a leader in the community for learning disabilities for over 48 years, our depth of involvement in the criteria for learned disabilities comes with tried, failed, and successful programs. Our current programs would exceed the objectives of the project as listed. Our organization has multiple staff that offer programming in the areas of youths with disabilities. We provide youth with sessions and leadership experiences with other like-minded individuals, other members of the community, and staff members. We are a national presence in the disability field being part of Learning Disabilities Association of Canada with provincial offices in all major cities across the country. As a non for profit LDAS has kept costs low and as lean as possible, with subsidizing as many low-income families as possible. Due to economic downturns in our economy we have not been able to receive as much funding in order to help subsidize these costs. LDAS has relied on partnering and donations in the community to help fund our programming. Our services that we offer across Saskatchewan are: Academic tutoring provides one on one individualized learning for Adults, children and youth. Students meet their tutor two to four times per week. Students receive initial comprehensive testing, one on one instruction, individualized programming to address challenges and needs, strategies for learning, strategies for comprehension, self-correction skills and opportunities to build strengths through leadership of one's self. Our Teachers use research based teaching methods such as F.A.S.T. programming, Empowered Beginnings, Lindamoodbell, Auditory Discrimination in Depth and Visualizing and Verbalizing. ADHD Coaching is where Adults, children and youth receive services to gain insight into how ADHD is affecting their lives: identifies strengths and challenges, which in turn will help them develop and implement strategies for success. This program has the success outcome of building confidence and self-awareness. Lego Social Skills Therapy Sessions an evidence-based therapy that helps children ages 4 - 13 with ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Cognitive Disabilities learn social skills and manage with peers. Students may lag behind peers in social situations and they may have challenges making friends, picking up on social cues, controlling play, and understanding that others may have a different perspective than their own. Children learn to work as a team, share, take turns, negotiations and compromise with peers of similar ages. Behavioral Therapy this program is useful for individuals whose behavior is getting in the way of their personal success, socially, academically, or in the world of work. the behavior may be described as anxious, aggressive, rude, unfriendly, or shy. These behaviors (and others) may be related to conditions like depression, ADHD, Autism spectrum, anxiety, PTSD, as well as other diagnosis. This form of therapy can identify and help change potentially self-destructive and unhealthy behaviors. Neurofeedback is direct training of brainwave functions by which the client learns to regulate their brainwaves more effectively. All brainwave frequencies are necessary for proper brainwave functions. Clients see improvement in sleep patterns, attention, anxiety, depression as well as other issues around self-regulation. The Organization has on site Pre GED, GED and Adult 12 courses to help individuals free of charge to complete their education to move onwards towards a post secondary or trade training program. Through these courses we are able to offer literacy, math, science, history, and other courses for all individuals at all levels of education. LDAS also works with individuals on an employability basis to help those who need additional supports in funding to achieve their desired occupation. We help individuals that need additional training, materials, clothing, etc. in order to be employed in our province. Inside of LDAS is a network of Registered Psychologists that monitor operations for Coaching, Therapies, Neurofeedback sessions, and Educational Assessments that are performed on site. We find that the pairing of the Psychologist with the services that is provided benefits the individuals on several levels to ensure that we are making the proper recommendations, case plans and follow ups for individual. LDAS is proud to host the number of individuals that come to us for assistance across the province and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
