About This Cause

Scope of Activities: Theatre Nova Scotia serves all areas the theatre arts in the province of Nova Scotia including: professional theatre companies, community theatre companies, professional and amateur individual theatre practitioners, and educators from elementary schools, junior high and high schools, and universities. Theatre Nova Scotia also has strong affiliations with national organizations such as The Canada Council for the Arts, Canadian Actor’s Equity Association, ACTRA Maritimes, the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and numerous theatre companies in all provinces. Theatre Nova Scotia is a front line resource for these organizations providing them with information and contacts to theatre companies and individuals in the province. The unique position of working with both professional and community groups allows Theatre Nova Scotia not only to contribute to the development of an art form, but also helps provide the community and the province’s theatres with programs that serve to increase financial activity in the industry. Theatre Nova Scotia also makes significant contributions to the education of young people through the Perform! program, the Nova Scotia High School Drama Festival, and a number of programs aimed at skills development (playwrighting contest, Dalhousie Audition program, Nova Scotia Talent Trust Award, Theatre Nova Scotia Scholarship Fund). Theatre Nova Scotia operates the Robert Merritt Awards, an annual program for our professional company members to highlight the extraordinary work produced in Nova Scotia over the prior year. TNS also offers a range of other support programs to assist our members such as a script library, equipment lending, office services, credit card program, theatre partnership, skill development workshops, newsletter, online calendar of member events and collective marketing.
