STANLEY PARK ECOLOGY SOCIETY

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, V6B4B2 Canada

Mission Statement

Stanley Park Ecology Society promotes the awareness of and respect for the natural world and plays a leadership role in the stewardship of Stanley Park through collaborative initiatives in education, research and conservation. As well as direct habitat restoration, wildlife support, and broad education to thousands of students and public annually, SPES advises the Vancouver Park Board and provides baseline information on conservation issues within the Park, including but not limited to ecosystem integrity, Environmentally Sensitive Areas and Species at Risk.

About This Cause

SPES has been actively promoting urban ecological conservation and stewardship since 1988, and it is the only nonprofit society that has a Joint Operating Agreement with the City of Vancouver/Vancouver Park Board to provide ecological education and community stewardship in Stanley Park. SPES engages community volunteers in the stewardship of Stanley Park through activities including restoring and enhancing habitat, and monitoring species and ecosystems at risk. It offers interactive public programs and operates Vancouver’s only ecology centre, the Stanley Park Nature House, and annually connects more than 30,000 people with nature through experiential public and curriculum-linked school programs.
