Our mission is to support children and youth facing socio-economic barriers through experiential learning programs. As a leading experiential learning charity, Moorelands Kids is known for creating positive leadership and social pathways for children and youth to realize their potential.
About This Cause
Founded in 1912, Moorelands Kids is an innovative children’s charity that empowers children and youth to succeed at home, school, and in their communities. We are committed to breaking down barriers for those facing socio-economic challenges, creating positive leadership and social pathways to success. Through experiential learning programs, we equip children and youth with the skills and confidence needed to achieve their unique potential. Kids at Moorelands develop leadership, confidence, character and skills to strengthen their emotional and social well-being. Our Promise We empower kids to realize their potential to succeed! Our Programs Moorelands Camp and Moorelands City Programs are designed to promote growth, develop personal leadership as well as build resiliency and confidence. Children and youth are empowered to realize their unique potential to succeed through learning, practicing and then applying life and leadership skills in a fun and caring environment where kids feel heard, valued and empowered to succeed. Holiday Sharing connects families of kids in our Camp and City programs with the supports needed during the holiday season while bringing them together as part of the Moorelands Community. HABITS & QUALITIES Moorelands Kids’ programs are rooted in the principles of Positive Youth Development (PYD), an intentional approach that recognizes, utilizes, and enhances young people’s strengths and promotes positive outcomes. Habits and Qualities (HQs) is a unique leadership curriculum based on the pillars of PYD, allowing participants to learn, practice and apply valuable life and leadership skills. We set the stage for kids as young as six to become leaders – first of themselves and then in their communities. PROGRAMS Our programs, led by a team of highly trained, dedicated staff and volunteers, are designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children and youth can realize their potential to succeed. Staff are trained with LEAD mental health certification so as to recognize, respond and support kids with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression or other such related behaviours of a child in distress. Moorelands City Programs Moorelands Kids offers unique leadership learning programs tailored to be age appropriate and meet the needs of children and youth located in the NIAs (Neighbourhood Improvement Areas) of Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, Humber Summit, and Humbermede. HOLIDAY SHARING Every year during the holiday season, Moorelands Kids’ Holiday Sharing program assists families whose children attend our programs through the following: Adopt-a-Family, Top Up the Pantry, and Mitts & a Movie. Each program is designed to support low-income families during the holidays by providing gifts and grocery gift cards. The Holiday Sharing program is anonymous so as to respect the dignity of the families we serve. Adopt-A-Family Through sponsorship our community of generous donors provide holiday gifts to low-income families whose child or children attend Moorelands Camp. We provide donors with information about the number of people in the family, children’s ages and their favourite things to ensure that gifts are matched to a family profile. Top Up the Pantry Food insecurity is an increasing concern for the families we work with. In addition to the grocery gift card donations received for families through the Adopt A Family program, Top Up the Pantry provides additional grocery gift cards to families facing food security issues during the holiday season. Mitts & A Movie Each year, we also provides gifts to teenagers in our Moorelands City Programs. Mitts & A Movie provides teenagers with a movie gift card and a pair of mittens or a warm winter hat as a holiday gift.
