Mission Statement
To Stimulate in the citizens of Newfoundland a greater appreciation and understanding of good music. To discover and encourage musical talents in young and old. To so enthuse those whose talents justify it, that they may finally enter the profession of music teaching, and direct and forward the training of others. Through music to bring greater joy and happiness to our land.
About This Cause
The Kiwanis Music Festival of St. John's has operated an annual Music Festival in St. John's since 1952, serving the children and youth of the St. John's and the Avalon Peninsula. The upcoming Festival will be the 69th Annual Festival. The Festival participants have the opportunity to perform among their peers and receive a professional adjudication of their performance from very qualified musicians/teachers from the top University Music Facilities in Canada, and/or professional musicians across Canada and/or the United States. Participation in the Festival is one of the highlights of the school year for music students. It is conservatively estimated that well over 500,000 young participants have been involved in solo competitions, as well as being members of numerous school and community bands and choirs since the Festival began. The participants, in addition to receiving an adjudication, will also be eligible for Scholarships and Awards (Cash and/or Trophies/Plaques). The value of awards is currently in excess of $20,000.
