Mission Statement

The Mission to Seafarers Halifax provides care and support to seafarers aboard ships visiting the Port of Halifax. As a church-based maritime welfare organization, the Mission activities are driven by faith and social responsibility. Throughout a long and distinguished history, The Mission to Seafarers has grown to become one of the largest port-based welfare operators in the world, providing service in 200 ports, 365 days a year, across 50 countries.

About This Cause

We support seafarers from all over the world, regardless of race, gender, culture or religious affiliation. We provide free WIFI, warm clothing and a place of safe respite. Our staff, chaplain and volunteers visit crew members on their vessels and offer hospitality, pastoral care and advocacy especially in cases of human rights issues, such as unpaid wages or poor working and living conditions. Sadly the lives of seafarers continue to be affected by tragedies at home and we offer bereavement support interventions. In December we deliver essential items in shoebox gifts ensuring that every crew member receives at least one gift at Christmas when they are far away from home. During a world pandemic we have been providing test kits for seafarers to ensure they are COVID NEGATIVE and we transport crew to pharmacies to be vaccinated. We do everything we can do to assist crew.
