About This Cause
Since 1965, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick has been working to reduce the toll of heart disease and stroke in our province and tangibly improve the health of all Canadians. The cardiovascular death rate in Canada has declined by more than 75 per cent, largely due to research advances in surgical procedures, drug therapies and prevention efforts. The Foundation – thanks to the support of our countless donors and volunteers – has played a significant part in those advances. The generosity of our donors and partners has allowed us to: • Place over 375 AEDs, including one in every arena and high school, throughout New Brunswick; • Play an instrumental role in the implementation of a provincial Telestroke network, ensuring all residents have access to a neurologist 24/7; and • Bring CPR training to over 8,000 students in high schools in New Brunswick ensuring that thousands of New Brunswick residents are prepared to step up and save a life! Our program teaches the essential skills of CPR and features an AED demonstration. The kits remain at the school and students are encouraged to take them home and teach their parents and siblings.
