Mission Statement

Our Mission: To collect, preserve and share the stories of Transcona through learning and discovery.

About This Cause

The Transcona Museum is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich cultural history of Transcona and the surrounding Springfield area. Through vibrant, annually rotating exhibitions in our public galleries—and additional displays at the Transcona East End Arena, Transcona Legion, and Transcona Library—we bring local stories to life for visitors of all ages. We steward a remarkable collection of more than 50,000 artifacts and archival materials, continually expanding our holdings through community donations. Our Manitoba Curriculum–aligned education programs invite school-age children to explore their heritage firsthand, connecting classroom learning with the real history of their community. One of our most treasured artifacts is CN 2747, the first steam locomotive built at the Transcona Shops and the first of its kind in CN’s western region. Now proudly situated in Rotary Heritage Park, just a short walk from the museum, CN 2747 has been the focus of extensive preservation efforts—including welding repairs, blast cleaning, and component replacement—since the museum acquired it in 2015. In 2024, thanks to a successful capital campaign, we completed a protective enclosure to safeguard this historic engine for generations to come. This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to preserving the past while inspiring the future of our community.
