Mission Statement
UNA-Canada is a national charitable civil society organisation established in 1946. Our mandate is to engage the Canadian public and government in the work of the United Nations and the critical international issues which affect us all. In short, UNA-Canada “grows Global Citizens.” For over 75 years, through a national office in Ottawa and over 16,000 supporters, members and participants, UNA-Canada has engaged the general public, private sector, educational institutions, and all levels of government in implementing Canada’s commitments under the UN. UNA-Canada’s initiatives focus on a broad range of development issues, including peace, and security, human rights including gender equality, diversity and social justice, youth employability, and environment and sustainability.
About This Cause
UNA-Canada strives for a better world. We focus on the UN issues of peace and security, sustainable development, human rights and global cooperation. We work directly with youth and educators, building the capacity of young Canadians able to effect positive global change. We foster Canadian support for the UN and the values that drive it - freedom, equality, tolerance, non-violence, respect for nature and shared responsibility. Through our programming we commemorate significant UN events, build awareness of the work of the UN, and provide opportunities for young Canadians to participate in the global space as delegates and interns. Here in Canada we support implementation of Canada's UN commitments related to equity, justice, and sustainability. We do this through education, community action, and training and skill building.
