Mission Statement
The YMCA believes that strong kids and healthy families are key to a thriving community. Programs respond to community need, which is why a YMCA can look very different from community to community, country to country, and generation to generation. In Northern Alberta, YMCA addresses these needs through access to fitness and recreational facilities, housing initiatives, child care, family resources, education supports and employment programs.
About This Cause
The YMCA believes that strong kids and healthy families are key to a thriving community. Our members, families and participants reflect the breadth and diversity of the communities we serve. Each year the YMCA provides services to over 120,000 people. Over 70% of those served are under 30 years of age (50% under 18). The YMCA of Northern Alberta offers various programs and services across our region. Programs and services are tailored to meet the needs of each community and include: Community Programs for children, youth and families, including education, stay in school, employment and human services offerings and youth leadership training and development; Affordable Housing and a range of Housing Support Services including Housing First services for homeless and newcomer families; Child Care (including Early Years and Out of School Care); Day Camps; Health, Fitness and Aquatics including access to subsidized programs, services and memberships through our Opportunity Fund for individuals and families living with low-income. The YMCA achieves its Mission through the engagement and support of the community including dedicated governance and program volunteers, professional staff, stakeholders, partners and collaborations, philanthropists (including our annual and capital donors), foundations and other funding organizations and municipal, provincial and federal governments.
