Mission Statement

The Ottawa School of Art (OSA) has been this city's premier visual arts institution since 1879, and continues to be a leading centre for visual arts education and creative expression in the Ottawa region. With two locations in the National Capital region, our main Campus, located in the ByWard Market and our Orleans Campus, situated in the Shenkman Arts Centre, the OSA continues to provide the community with the opportunity for artistic exploration, development and growth. We focus is on inclusivity and creating opportunity within the arts community of Ottawa. Our values are to our community (we believe that students are the very core of our mission and work to continuously strengthen and enhance their skills), to creativity (we foster imagination, creativity and innovation in all our activities), to inclusiveness (we embrace an inclusive and accessible environment for all and promote diversity in participation and perspectives), to be inspiring (we value the importance of inspiration and support hands-on training by participating artists, and to professionalism (we are committed to providing our students studio-based and studio-oriented practice).

About This Cause

Ottawa School of Art (OSA) offers professional arts education classes for beginner to advance students of all ages. We offer a general interest program incorporating many different mediums/subjects including drawing, life drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and a wide variety of specialized short courses and workshops, along with a visiting artist program, artist residencies, a professional portfolio program, and a post - secondary Fine Arts Diploma program. We run art classes for children and teens throughout the year and provide day camps during March Break and summer holidays. Our three Artist Galleries are encouraging spaces for creative minds to, share and teach in a positive environment exhibiting local, national and international artists. We offer a bursary program providing financial support towards the cost of an art course and our Community Outreach Program, provides art classes for students for free (all materials and snacks are provided) to children, youth and seniors facing socioeconomic challenges with 15 Community Partners in their own neighbourhoods with participants who do not have access to structured creative environments. Art scholarships are available to students in the Fine Arts Diploma and Certificate and Portfolio programs. Donors contribute directly to the scholarships to cover costs of tuition and artist materials. Donations make a difference to help strengthen our ability to offer art instruction to students into their lives and permits the school to upgrade essential art materials and equipment. You can make a direct investment in art education and artists futures. Art has a positive effect to boost the confidence and resiliency of children, youth and adult students, as well as families and artists – important strands of the fabric of our school.
