About This Cause
In May 2020, due to COVID-19, BMF cancelled all live productions for spring and summer 2020. Artistically and administratively, BMF responded quickly, adopting new technologies to virtually disseminate performances and training sessions. Beginning May 8th, BMF produced 17 (45 minute) “BrottMusicLive” performances, interviews, 57 masterclasses and 16 seminars online. Travel restrictions meant 100% of training, rehearsal and performing activities were done virtually. All broadcast on YouTube, Brottmusic.com and Facebook Live; Produced virtual 90-minute Don Giovanni and solo/ensemble orchestral concerts to critical acclaim. Received national media attention (Toronto Star, CBC Radio) for online digital training and performances. Google analytics showed 30% increase in online followers and BrottMusicLive performances reached 108 countries. Brott In The Park will continue the 33-year legacy of the Brott Music Festival and the inception of its orchestra-in-residence, The National Academy Orchestra of Canada. BMF is one of few arts organizations in Canada to have grown and operated successfully for three decades with no deficit. Brott In the Park will increase awareness of BrottMusic in general, but also knowledge of local culture as a result of attending the series. Audiences may decide to pursue additional arts programs after attending. Audience will have an enhanced attitude and positive feeling towards the arts and their role in our mental health, community building and sense of social bonds in the community. The novelty of Brott In The Park will attract media interest from further afield, thus increasing stature and awareness of the organization and the City of Hamilton. This will also aid in increasing numbers of audience travelling to the event from outside a 40 km radius of Hamilton. An aggressive and creative social media campaign will increase followers, website hits and thus interest in attending one or more of the Brott In The Park five-concert series. Brott Music has both the expertise and experience to present live and digital performances safely and successfully. It is recognized as one of the four anchor arts organizations in Hamilton by the City. The organization has operated deficit free for 33 years, has a dedicated Board of Directors, an advisory committee which includes former Opera Hamilton professionals, Artistic Director Boris Brott has founded six orchestras in Canada and was music director of BBC Northern Sinfonia, Royal Ballet Covent Gardens, founding Music Director of Los Angeles’ New West Symphony and principal guest conductor of TSO and NACO Education Programs and orchestras all over the world, particularly in European Opera Houses from La Scala to Arena di Verona. The 33-year history of Brott Music demonstrates administrative and artistic experience in presenting concerts of the highest quality throughout Greater Hamilton. The organization is supported at all levels of government and is solidly sponsored by the private sector. Perhaps the greatest testament to organizational capacity is that the Festival has operated deficit-free for 33 years and will not take on projects that cannot be paid for. Activities may be scaled back to fit reduced budgets. Artistic director and committee select artists of the highest calibre.
