Mission Statement
The Kelowna & District Society for People In Motion (People In Motion) is unique in its practice and programs. We work to develop and enhance the lives and informal supports for persons with disabilities and individuals with adaptive needs – recognizing that the social isolation and obstacles inherent to the disability or adaptive needs can prevent or hinder opportunities to engage in healthy, active living activities and relationship development. Because bringing people together – for a common purpose; creating a good life for people with disabilities and special needs is the heart of what we do at People In Motion.
About This Cause
People In Motion is a local (Kelowna, BC) volunteer-driven, registered charitable organization, and as such, all donations go directly to our program operation. Our members consist of persons with a large range of disabilities both physical and sensory as well as seniors with special needs and an annual $10 membership fee provides total program access. Our People In Motion volunteers, employees and directors assist and encourage people with physical and sensory disabilities, individuals with adaptive needs and their families to participate in and contribute to their communities as much as they desire. Thus, People in Motion is involved with programs and services in adaptive recreation. Our Adaptive recreational programs consist of Adaptive Snow Sports at Big White Ski Resort, Kelowna, BC and Mt. Blady Mountain Resort, Oliver BC, Wheelchair Basketball, Power Wheelchair Soccer, Adaptive Curling, Access to Angling (Accessible Fishing), Lift-equipped transportation with our Bus and Van, Adaptive Recreational Equipment loans, Myra Canyon Adaptive cycling, and providing online accessible resource information. People In Motion hosts special events such as an annual wheelchair basketball tournament and annual jamboree, an annual power wheelchair soccer tournament, our annual Kids In Motion Family Fun Days (Winter and Summer) and our Ski-A-Thon that takes place on the first Sunday of March every year at beautiful Big White Ski Resort. Our adaptive charter tours encourage networking and promote the importance of discovering new ways to get “Out & About” and enjoy healthy, active living. People In Motion’s “Out & About” Charter Tours are all-inclusive and we encourage and welcome all community members throughout the Okanagan to participate in our tours…
