Mission Statement
To inspire and build a dignity driven movement cultivating communities that are free from domestic violence and abuse.
About This Cause
We welcome your support and invite you to join us in changing the conversation around domestic violence and abuse. FearIsNotLove supports individuals, families, and communities to live free from domestic violence and abuse. We serve all people impacted by domestic violence and abuse through a comprehensive range of innovative programs and services; from prevention and education to counselling and emergency supports. Started in 1974 as the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, we have helped more than 275,000 individuals build safe lives and healthy relationships. While the Emergency Shelter will always remain a part of who we are, of our over 20,000 clients annually, only approximately 5% of clients are supported in the shelter. The other 95% of clients are supported through our community-based programs. Our fondest wish is that someday our services will no longer be necessary. But until that day comes, we thank you for joining with us to support individuals and families in need. Everyone has the right to feel safe, respected, supported, and loved. ABOUT FEARISNOTLOVE Our Programs: The Connect Domestic Violence and Abuse Helpline is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. The Helpline is often the first line of support for women, children, youth, and men reaching out to build lives free of abuse. Professionally trained counsellors provide counselling, safety planning, and referrals. The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter provides safe and secure accommodation, food, basic essential items, safety planning, referral services, and counselling to women, and women with children, fleeing domestic violence and abuse. Community Services Counselling provides short-term crisis-oriented support as well as longer-term, counselling to women who are unable, or choose not, to enter the Emergency Shelter. The Court Program provides navigation of the court system and support for those who have or are currently experiencing domestic violence and abuse. Child Youth and Family Therapy provides support and counselling to children, youth, and their family members who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. Healthy Relationships is a prevention and early intervention program offered to youth 12 years and older, which is focused on building healthier relationships. Men's Counselling Service offers non-judgmental counselling to individuals who are concerned that their anger and abusive behaviours are negatively impacting their family members. Female partners also receive safety checks, counselling and support. Men & is an online resource offering trusted, accessible support, information and resources for the complex mental and relational health challenges men face. Take a Stand is an initiative that educates and empowers community members to effectively support victims. The digital toolkit is available on our website.
