Mission Statement
Fife House's mission is to provide secure and affordable supportive housing and support services for persons and families living with HIV/AIDS (PHA), and work to achieve social change through research and advocacy that addresses systemic oppression. We believe that everyone living with HIV/AIDs has the right to quality, stable homes in a society free of stigma.
About This Cause
Founded in 1988, Fife House is an award-winning organization founded in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic of the time, to provide safe housing and supports for individuals living with HIV/AIDS who found themselves homeless due to fear, stigma, misunderstanding and stereotypes. It opened its first residence in 1990 with capacity to house 5 individuals. Since then, Fife House has grown and continuously evolved to meet the growing and ever changing needs of the community. Today, Fife House's supportive housing programs and services encompasses six main residential programs and multiple satellite housing locations across the city of Toronto which provides long-term and traditional housing for approximately 200 men, women and families living with HIV/AIDS, and which provides various vital support services - such as food security programs, mental health and social-recreational programs, support for individuals with addictions/substance use challenges, advocacy and accompaniment, and more - for approximately 1,000 individuals annually. Fife House also runs an active housing help referral program to assist people living with HIV/AIDS in securing housing among its various partners. Fife House’s six core supportive housing programs for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS includes: · Denison Program: a 5 unit co-ed residence with 24/7 support services available onsite · Jarvis Program: an 82-unit high-rise apartment complex, with day and evening support services available for residents on an as-needed basis. · Sherbourne Program: 45 dedicated units within a 12-storey supportive housing apartment complex, in partnership with Woodgreen Community Services. Support services are available onsite on a 24/7 basis. · Sherbourne Transitional Housing Program: 11 units of transitional housing with private quarters and communal living spaces, with 24/7 support services available for residents. · Huntley Transitional Housing Program: 20 units of transitional housing for individuals exiting or being diverted from the shelter system. It includes 24/7 clinical and support services , a managed alcohol program, and extensive focus on independent living skills. · Addictions Supportive Housing Program: 32 rent-subsidized units spread throughout the GTA, with 24-hour counseling services available offered in partnership with LOFT Community Services (McEwan House). In addition to these housing programs, Fife House also offers additional services for people living with HIV/AIDS: · Community Programs: Myriad recreational, social and educational activities, meal/food security programming, complementary wellness services and supports, etc, for residents across Fife House's housing locations · Linkage to Care: The Linkage to Care Program provides intensive case management for people living with HIV, prioritizing community members who identify as Indigenous, Black and Persons of Colour (IBPOC). The program recognizes that people face many challenges in trying to navigate the complex systems of immigration, criminal justice, poverty, addictions and mental health, gendered violence, generational trauma, and forced displacement on their own. The Linkage to Care Program Team is committed to providing support, connections, and care through referrals to necessary services, accompaniments, and advocacy. · Personal Support and Care Planning at Seaton House: The Personal Support & Care Planning Program at Seaton House (Canada's largest shelter for men) is a partnership between Fife House, the Toronto Central LHIN, and City of Toronto Shelter Support and Housing Administration. The Program is an assisted living model of personal support work and coordinated care, working with older men and men with complex health issues.
