Mission Statement

CHATS - Community & Home Assistance to Seniors is a not-for-profit charitable organization, launched in 1980 by a caring group of community members who believed in enhancing the independence of seniors living at home. Today, CHATS enhances the health, wellness and independence of more than 7,300 York Region and South Simcoe seniors and caregivers each year. We offer a full range of in-home and community services that enable seniors to continue living in their own home, such as in-home help and care, Meals on Wheels, transportation, home safety services, wellness/social programs, diversity outreach programs, caregiver support and education, hospital-to-home transition, and much more. Based on a passion for caring and community, more than 520 volunteers are the heart and soul of CHATS.

About CHATS, Home care and community support for seniors and caregivers Launched in 1980 by a caring group of community members, CHATS originated as a grassroots not-for-profit charitable organization that provided a few basic services to help seniors to continue living in their own homes. Over the years, CHATS has grown and evolved, and now offers a full range of home care and community programs that meet the changing needs of more than 7,300 York Region and South Simcoe seniors and caregivers each year. Under the strong experience and knowledge of more than 520 volunteers, a Board of Directors, and 335 staff, CHATS embraces professional best practices in home care and our other services with caring, compassionate dedication. This unique combination ultimately benefits our clients, our community partners, and the community overall. Our quality achievements and service delivery model have been commended by Accreditation Canada. Although CHATS is partially funded by the Central Local Health Integration Network, Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and the United Way of York Region, the demand for increased services and programs necessitates the need for additional funding. Our services are offered throughout all 9 municipalities that comprise of York Region as well as Bradford, West Gwillimbury and New Tecumseth and they include: Adult Day Programs Assisted Living residential care 24/7 Caregiver Support & Education CHATS Philips Lifeline Home Adaptation & Maintenance Program Home at Last Homemaking, Personal Care & Respite Care Meals on Wheels Wellness & Diversity Outreach Programs Telephone Reassurance Transportation (88,030 trips in 2014-15)
