Mission Statement

We facilitate services and advocate for people to live the life they choose.

About This Cause

The Redvers Activity Centre is a non-profit corporation that provides residential, recreational and vocational services to people experiencing intellectual disabilities. We support approximately 30 adults in all areas of their lives and are proud to boast a staff compliment of about 65 skilled and dedicated staff who work hard to provide the quality services that Redvers Activity Centre is known for. The Redvers Activity Centre started in Redvers, Saskatchewan in 1963 as a school that supported children experiencing intellectual disabilities. At that time, these children lived there during the week. It was run by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross. The school moved to Oxbow in May 1971 and became the Glenn McGuire School while the Redvers Activity Centre became a support for adults experiencing disabilities to live and work in their community. At that time the people that attended the Activity Centre made leather products, crafts for re-sale, wedding decorations and operated the first daycare in town. In 1977, beading and moccasin lacing was introduced and this continued until about 1995. In May of 1983, the new Activity Centre building was constructed (the one we are currently housed in) and named the Sister Adele Building, because of Sister Adele’s dedication and hard work throughout the years for the Corporation. Throughout the years, the Agency has evolved to meet the changing needs of the people we support as well as the changing societal expectations on quality services for people experiencing disabilities. Programs and services offered by the Agency include the Day program where people work on pre-employment or functional-development skill building or are involved in this and surrounding communities as contributing members utilizing the amenities of each community as any member would, or engaging in supported volunteerism. SARCAN is another vocational program offered by the Redvers Activity Centre. Our SARCAN is over 30 years old and has grown into a large depot with four full-time staff and four relief staff who are utilized on a continuous basis during our busy season. In keeping with our environmental mindset, the Agency also runs an Eco-centre where we accept used oil and filters for recycling. Our Residential Programs consist of three Group Homes and a Supportive Living Program. The Group Homes are residences for 17 people experiencing intellectual disabilities. The staff who work in the group homes provide just as much support as the person needs to be able to engage in activities of daily living. They also assist the person with support in their recreational and personal lives so they can live as rich and as whole a life as they want. The Supportive Living Program supports people who can, to live in their own homes. The people who are assisted through our Supported Living Program receive help with activities such as shopping, cleaning, cooking, budgeting, etc. In all program areas, the staff of the Redvers Activity Centre meet people where they’re at in their lives and encourage and challenge them to rise to be the best version of themselves that they can be. The Redvers Activity Centre and everyone who is involved with it, be it the people we support, the staff or the Regular or Foundation Board Members, are champions for the rights of people experiencing disabilities and their entitlement to live their lives on their own terms and by their own choice. We endeavour to empower people experiencing disability to speak up for themselves and their rights and when they can’t, we advocate on their behalf, as we believe that every human being deserves the power to create their own life on their own terms. We have strong leadership in the form of a volunteer Board of Directors who gives many hours in dedication to the Agency. The Board of Directors paves the path for the rest of the Agency and does it ethically and competently. The Board advocates for the Agency as a whole as well as for the staff and the people we support for a myriad of reasons and is passionate about doing so. We are also lucky to have a volunteer fundraising Board, the Redvers Activity Centre Foundation Board. This group of devoted individuals spends countless hours organizing a yearly fundraising event to raise money for the Agency for equipment and supplies that we would not otherwise have the money for, as not everything we need to run our services and programs is covered by our funding. Not only does the Foundation Board raise money for the Agency, but it also raises awareness of who we are and what we do throughout the area, increasing our presence in our community.
