Positive Living Niagara provides a continuum of innovative and proactive approaches to harm reduction, prevention and a person-centered focus on support and education for those at risk and affected by HIV, Hep-C, STBBIs and substance use.
About This Cause
Positive Living Niagara’s mission is to provide a continuum of innovative and proactive approaches to harm reduction, prevention, and a person-centered focus on support and education for those at risk and affected by HIV, HCV, sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs), and substance use. Programs and Services: • StreetWorks Harm Reduction Program: Provides harm reduction education, access to harm reduction supplies, and support services for individuals affected by substance use and STBBIs. This program also includes outreach to individuals living on the streets and offers connections to addictions counselling, nursing services, and peer support. • Overdose Prevention and Response Program: Delivers training on overdose prevention, distributes naloxone kits, and offers post-overdose debriefs and counselling services to individuals who have used naloxone. It also provides referrals to treatment and primary care services. • Community Education and Awareness Initiatives: Includes workshops, training sessions, and resources for the community to combat stigma and increase awareness of HIV, HCV, STBBIs, and harm reduction strategies. • Client Assistance Fund: This fund is used to assist clients to receive medical care/treatment and in maintaining their health and personal wellness. It assists clients on a limited basis to maintain or regain their health and wellness where they do not have adequate resources to do so. These items can range from; medication, medical equipment, nutritional support, food items, short term treatment or therapy, specialized camp focused on individuals with HIV, and transportation support to attend medical related appointments and select community activities. • Support Services for Individuals Living with HIV/HCV: Offers case management, peer support programs, and wellness activities to improve the quality of life for clients. These programs align with Positive Living Niagara’s mission by addressing the complex needs of at-risk populations, reducing harm, and fostering a supportive and informed community.
