The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay catholic organization whose mission is: -To live the Gospel message -by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy. The Mission of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul implies that as Vincentians, we: -see Christ in anyone who suffers; -come together as a family; -have personal contact with those in need; -help in all possible ways.
About This Cause
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a global network of Catholic volunteers dedicated to living the Gospel message by serving the poor with love, respect, justice, and joy. Our mission calls us to see Christ in anyone who suffers, come together as a family, have personal contact with those in need, and help in all possible ways. SSVP Halifax is made up of nearly 300 volunteers who work tirelessly to support individuals and families in our community. We proudly serve the Halifax side of the harbour, as well as Amherst, Colchester County, and Lunenburg County. In 2023, SSVP Halifax assisted 7,825 adults and 4,033 children, reaching 3,992 households with essential services such as food, rent assistance, utility payments, medical prescriptions, and transportation. Additionally, Hope Cottage, one of our special works, provided 29,000 meals to those facing hunger. Hand in Hand, our thrift store located in Spryfield, also provides meaningful employment opportunities as well as affordably priced goods to community members. Our work extends beyond providing immediate assistance. Our volunteers build personal connections with those we serve, offering a compassionate ear, identifying additional resources, and connecting individuals to other community supports. This holistic approach ensures that those we help are not only supported but empowered to build a better future. As the needs in our communities continue to grow, your generous support enables us to expand our services and reach even more people.
