Mission Statement
Liberty Lane provides Second Stage Housing and Outreach Services to individuals and their children living with, or leaving, family violence. Our Mission is to enable individuals and their children who have experienced Domestic Violence to attain personal and economic independence and a future free from violence.
About This Cause
Our Second Stage Program includes a 10 unit apartment building with an attached office. Our units are affordable (rent subsidized through the province), and the women sign 12 month leases, but length of stay is tailored to individual circumstances. While living here the women attend a weekly support group and work on goals. The weekly support group focuses on life skills training, including self-esteem, assertiveness, healthy relationships, goal setting, budgeting and resume writing, etc. Our Outreach Program staff can work with anyone in the community who is still living with or who has left an abusive partner. The outreach workers provide safety planning, complete danger assessments and assist with Emergency Intervention orders. They make referrals to other services, can provide accompaniment to appointments and court, provide general support and run groups for those who have experienced violence. We are often invited into schools and colleges/universities to talk about healthy dating and friendships, and make presentations to community organizations and other service providers. Our new Children's Program is an evidence-based, trauma and violence orientated program offering parental guidance and support, children’s group sessions, individual meetings, specialized and adapted childcare, and community and outdoor activities to develop and promote resilience, emotional regulation, social skills, and general well-being for children.
