Mission Statement
Founded in 1991, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is an independent, not-for-profit housing program that works to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. We mobilize local volunteers, community members and corporate partners, seeking to create a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
About This Cause
Habitat for Humanity Hamilton implements an on-going development model called the Home Build Program. Within this program, we build homes and provide interest-free mortgages to hard-working and deserving families who otherwise could not afford homeownership. Our service area encompasses the City of Hamilton, Haldimand County and the territories of the Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mississaugas of the New Credit. This service area is comprised of a total population of approximately 800,000 people. Habitat for Humanity Hamilton strengthens its mission with the support of the ReStore, a social enterprise and home improvement warehouse that offers new and used affordable merchandise to the general public. Revenues generated by the Hamilton ReStore fund all administrative and operational costs at Habitat Hamilton. This means that donated funds to Habitat Hamilton directly support our Home Build Program. Habitat Hamilton is currently building a row of townhouses on Sherman Avenue that will provide five new affordable homes in Hamilton, ON. The charity is also working with New Horizon Development Group, which has committed to building two affordable semi-detached homes in the Beach Community. Finally, Habitat Hamilton and Habitat Heartland have partnered with the Six Nations of the Grand River to build five units to provide safe and affordable rental options for families on the Six Nations of the Grand River territory.
