Mission Statement
Auberge Shalom pour femmes is a Jewish community-based centre addressing the needs of all women and children whose lives have been affected by conjugal violence. We provide a continuum of professional services in both a shelter setting and in an external counselling and resource office. All services are provided in a safe, confidential and supportive environment. Auberge Shalom is committed to breaking the cycle of conjugal violence through education, prevention and advocacy.
About This Cause
Auberge Shalom uses a trauma-informed approach – a collaborative and empowering approach that has gained recognition as the gold standard of care across world health organizations. Working in a trauma-informed way means understanding the pervasive effects of trauma and violence and offering interventions that recognize the experiences of the women who receive our services. The three fundamental pillars of the core mission of Auberge Shalom that have evolved with the support of philanthropy are: Shelter – a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, fully-equipped, secure, 12-bed Kosher including crisis intervention, safety planning, specialized support for children, counselling, advocacy and accompaniment,– all within a framework of clinical supervision and training. External Counselling Office - individual counselling by appointment in a confidential location a continuum of care also provided to former shelter residents, services are open-ended and can be short-term or long-term depending on client needs; Programs – varied programs offered within the shelter and counselling office; programs offering client support beyond shelter and counselling; outreach and education initiatives
