About This Cause

The Children's Resource Council has been a reliable and respectable early years organization in the High Prairie area for the last 20 years. We have provided services within the MD of Big Lakes and Smoky River, the Metis Settlements of Peavine, East Prairie and Gift Lake, the First Nations communities of Whitefish, Sucker Creek, Driftpile, Swan River and Kapaweno for the last 20 years. In addition, we have successfully applied for the HUB of Family Resource Network, a provincially funded program focused on child intervention and prevention as well as parenting skills. We have created a network of service providers and parents who meet to coordinate and collaborate on community projects. Backpacks for kids, free drop-in play, Truth & Reconciliation and working with HPCALP are a few examples. The focus of all our efforts has been to improve developmental outcomes for young children, help to strengthen families and build a sense of community in the region. The Children’s Resource Council strives to strengthen our communities and the families within it by developing partnership and providing resources aimed at healthy family choices, building relationships, resiliency, wellbeing, and focused child youth development by serving families through the programs and services we provide and the charitable resources which are received for children, youth, parents/caregivers, and families in the regions we serve. Programs that are offered at the Centre consists of well-being, caregiver capacity, home visitation and parents’ skill building, parent education, family nights, peer support, prenatal and postnatal care and early intervention and prevention. We have also created programs targeting youth mental health, and 6-12 to curb behaviors. We are collaborating with schools, aboriginal organizations, and The Native Friendship Centre to deliver cultural and spiritual teachings to aboriginal youth, as well as non aboriginal community members that would like to learn these teachings.
