Mission Statement
In 2020, the Halifax Pride Society reimagined its Mission, Vision, and Values, recognizing the colonial narrative embedded in the concept of a “mission” and choosing instead to adopt a new framework grounded in our Aim, Purpose, and Guiding Principles. Our Aim is to build an equitable society free from all forms of oppression. Our Purpose is to create spaces where people of diverse sexual and gender identities can come together and flourish. Guided by the principles of Community, Self-expression, and Growth, we strive to foster a sense of belonging and connection, empower individuals to be their true, authentic selves without fear or judgment, and remain committed to continually unlearning oppressive social constructs to reimagine and rebuild systems that uplift and champion all voices.
About This Cause
The Halifax Pride Festival is an annual 11 day gathering in the Halifax Regional Municipality for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. It features over 150 community and Pride organized events celebrating the history, culture, activism, and perseverance of the queer community. While the Halifax Pride Society organizes a number of large and small scale events, we engage actively with various queer groups and individuals throughout the year to support them in the planning of their own events and activities.
