About This Cause

The Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild mandate is two-fold: To provide a forum for creative inspiration and shared knowledge in weaving, spinning and related fibre-arts, and to increase the profile and understanding of weaving, spinning and related fibre-arts in the community. The Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary (HWSGC) is an active community of 90+ artists who share a love of all things fibre. Founded in 1978, the Guild has been involved in Calgary and area for 46 years with educational, outreach and community activities to share our knowledge and expertise about spinning, dyeing, weaving and felting. HWSGC has a lot of equipment (looms, spinning wheels and accessories) for teaching and/or member use or rental. HWSGC has an extensive collection of books and periodicals covering all aspects of fibre arts. The collection has increased to 725 books published from the 1930s up to the present day and is available for use by all members. The guild also holds an extensive collection of periodicals most used by weavers and spinners. The library holdings include woven and spun samples from a variety of sources that are invaluable for research and teaching. It is the most complete single collection of fibre arts related materials in Western Canada.
