Mission Statement
Our program focuses on the ‘whole child’. Children are respected and accepted unconditionally. Our program plan is implemented through the ‘learning through play’ philosophy. Children learn through direct interaction with others and their environment. Keeping this in mind, it is our intent to offer challenging activities in which children’s curiosity and creativity is sparked, ultimately leading to learning.
About This Cause
Thorhild Seeds to Sprouts Childcare Society (SSCS) is a not-for-profit society registered in February, 2019 to better serve the needs of the families in our community. The Center’s Board of Directors consists of 7 volunteer members and employs a Director who manages the day to day operations and support staff. Thorhild SSCS is committed to providing a safe, high quality, affordable, inclusive child centered program to families with trained Early Childhood Educators (ECE’s). We strive to promote a positive self-image for each child by encouraging exploration, fostering the development of social skills and cultivating friendships. We believe that children learn through play and personal experiences that foster each child's growth and development. We believe that children's programs should create an environment of trust where friendships are encouraged, and each child learns a positive sense of him/herself. We support and encourage cooperative partnerships between parents and staff in order to meet the needs of all the children in our care. Each goal of our program will focus on the whole child. A “Learning through play philosophy” will provide many opportunities for the child to develop a sense of well-being and belonging in a caring learning community, opportunities for play in purposefully created environments both indoors and outdoors; literacy experiences that engage children in expressing their ideas in many different ways and develop consideration for others. Out of school care children will be given many opportunities to design and create their learning experiences based on their interests. Our ECE’s will appreciate and nurture each child’s unique identity as a learner and will assist in co-constructing curriculum based on children’s interests. At Thorhild SSCS, our most important goal is to provide a safe and caring environment that promotes a positive sense of themselves. Children are encouraged to try new things, ask questions and express themselves. Our ECE’s spend a lot of time interacting with the children, continuously making positive comments about children's activities, curiosities and accomplishments. We strive to help children develop confidence, independence, and a desire to learn. Our program sets goals for the children in all areas of development: Emotional and Social Growth, Physical Health, Creative Growth and Intellectual Growth.
