Mission In collaboration with partners, to be a youth-centered family focused that strive to reach youths who in dire need of support, empowering entrepreneurship and employments skills, through education and workshops, building self esteem, skills development and life structure planning, while helping their low income parents.

About This Cause

Youth Empowerment and Skills Centre (YES Centre) is a youth-centered and family-focus non-profit organization that help at-risks youths, low-income family in Calgary, Alberta. YES Centre had originated as grassroots through community uplifting projects and continue to support over 5,000 youths, families and individuals annually. For the last 15 years YES Centre has provided a welcoming and inclusive environment that challenges to build stronger communities through empowering and providing barrier-free educational activities, leisure, and skills development programs to at-risk teenagers, youths living in low-income families, immigrants and refugee children with appropriate skills, awareness, knowledge and experience for a better citizen. We continue to strive as grassroots to restore hope for children, youths and families who have hit rock bottom due to unforeseen circumstances in life and the current COVID-19. Some of our projects were YES Empowerment Award where 130 junior high and High School Student received award. This was the first time for approximately 80% of those youths to have award with their name on it for something positive they had done. In addition, YES Centre had done YYC Kids Ride where it has given away over 500 donated bikes to low-income youths during the COVID-19. Moreover, YES Centre with their volunteers in partnership with Little Ceaser were able to deliver over 750 pizza. , YES Centre has given out approximately 375 donated backpacks to low-income youths that their families were affected by COVID-19. Thankfully to the generosity of Huskey Energy for donating 60 backpacks to supporting our School Supply Surprise. YES Centre is now located in Forest Lawn, at 4020 26 Ave SE. our programs are catered to youth in Junior – High School, age 6-13, age 13 to 18, and age 18 to 28. What we Offer Our aim continues to empower communities, through programs and activities in order to secure a brighter future for at-risk youth and families. As a youth centred and family focused, our work is focused in reaching youths, young men and women who are in dire need of support, helping low-income families, empowering single mothers, strengthening youth through education and life structure planning. After school Program The After-school Program works with youth throughout their school years (grades 1-12). It focuses on keeping youth positively engaged by providing academic support, English development, recreational and healthy life skills. In-School Settlement and helping empower youth in sports That aim to partner with schools in East Calgary to offer comprehensive, settlement services, and delivering information sessions and workshops on housing, employment, Canadian customs, traditions, and youth adaptation to cross-cultures. Youth Empowerment: YES I AM Focuses on five pillars: youth Employment and entrepreneurship International Ambassadors of Change and Mentor. We run these programs in partnership to introduces and build, bring peer mentoring, field trips and one-on-one support. The aim is to provide an early support system to youth success by offering tours, and hands on engagement Transitioning into Post-Secondary MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS YES Centre understand that the Mental health and wellness service and resources aims to relief youths from traumatically experienced life events by tackling the root issues, shifting focus and rebuilding. Areas of focus related but not limited to depression, anxiety, stress, grief, self-esteem, addictions, suicide, domestic abuse, victim of crimes and posttraumatic stress disorder. CHILDREN WELL BEING YES Centre understand that a child’s well-being is vital as it is the root foundations that foreshadow their future. YES Centre aims to improve the welfare of children by focusing on providing social and support groups, activities, education support and importance of education, and programs that enhance the mental capacity and well-being of children. EMPOWERING SINGLE PARENTS YES Centre understand the aspect of the foundation emphasizes on the needs of a one head single parent family home. Another area that affects single parents is poverty. Across demographic groups there is higher percentage of single ethnic parent living in poverty due to many complex factors. In 2010, lone parent family is recorded as four times more likely to access food bank than any other family type. Our aim is to provide social services and resources that would support single struggling families. Our area of concentration is but not limited to; financial support, emotional stability, personal growth such as employment and educational resources, counseling support to men/women who are victims of violence, neglect, depression, grief, personal relationships, self-esteem hard circumstances of life. FAMILY FOUNDATION AND STRUCTURE YES Centre understand that each family household unit has a certain way that it functions or is set on a specific structure based on ethnicity, upbringing or environment. A healthy family foundation is vital for learning, capacity building, gaining skills, and providing welfare. An unhealthy family foundation, however, is a structure where conflict, neglect, abuse and misbehaviors are constant and ever-present. Unlike a healthy family, an unhealthy family structure is evident in omitting optimal growth and ceases to provide an environment for emotional well-being. Great emphasis is considered on this section as statistics have proven that a healthy family foundation is important for a successful future of an individual. Our aim as a foundation is to tackle family issues, separation and divorce, Couple and marital relations, financial difficulties, families who have given up on the education of their children, a proper upbringing and building a strong family home.
