Mission Statement
Teach academic and hands-on skills training to orphans, destitute, and widows from pre-K to grade 10
About This Cause
Provide academic education and skills training from PreK to Grade 10 to destitute girls and women. Also offer meals, transportation, uniform, book, stationaries for sustenance. Everything began way back in the year 2004 in a far-flung village in Bangladesh. We came across an elderly woman about 75 years of age who didn’t know how to read and write. We investigated the root cause of such ignorance and found that many villages used to be flooded badly during monsoon season. The mighty Padma River floods nearby areas and causes heavy land erosion and makes thousands of people homeless. It disconnects the villages from the mainland and makes it impossible for the weak, especially girls to visit schools and continue learning. This impacted many other women to remain ignorant, illiterate, and superstitious. We immediately opened a part-time education center in the village and were able to teach 30 adult women in a small tin-shed house. Some brothers and sisters from USA and Canada visited the education center and realized that we need to start from scratch. We all planned for a primary school for the poor girls who used to live in extreme poverty. Since then, the school has continued to grow from strength to strength as we now have over 400 full-time students from Pre-K to Grade 10 in a 6 story school building, 62resident orphans living and studying along with some widows in 2 dormitories buildings. The students get food, clothing, education materials, stipend, and emergency food support from Al-Ihsan. Many who thought they were only going to be trained in academic education only were encouraged to see that the schoolgirls are getting skills training in sewing, cutting, embroidery, handicrafts, and computing. We did this so they can fend for themselves from what they have learned, from their handiwork. We put together a broad educational syllabus comprising both academic and skills training all-round learning of school syllabus, and vocational training As we follow our own customized curriculum, we do not get any funding from the local government. We fully depend on the donations of our brothers and sisters from home and abroad. Since Covid-19 Pandemic started, the number of orphans and widows has doubled while the monthly donations have dropped. Extending a helping hand to us will not only keep this project alive but also will save lives. By the will of God, this act of kindness shall protect them from poverty and ignorance.
