Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for burn survivors, their family members, friends, and caregivers to share their stories, support and learn from one another, and encourage psychological healing following a burn injury. When someone is burned, they experience physical pain as well as psychological trauma; a change in their physical appearance and potentially a change in their vocation and abilities. The healing journey can take many years, and support from others who understand this and who have also gone through it is very helpful at all stages of healing.

About This Cause

The Mamingwey Burn Society is a registered charity that has been accompanying burn survivors for many years in their journey toward their “new normal” after a burn injury. This support includes providing a survivor network and allowing individuals to share their experiences to help them heal from the psychological aspects of their unique injuries. Our mandate is to offer support and healing to all burn survivors who are admitted to the Manitoba Firefighters Burn Unit at the Health Sciences Centre and/or have received treatment in the outpatient burn clinic. We conduct our support in various ways including an annual fundraising called Go for the Burn Run; facilitating a 2-day conference bringing together survivors, their families, and healthcare professionals under one roof to meet and learn how to heal from similar shared experiences; a monthly virtual support group; a memorial scholarship program for survivors and their families; and a week long Burn Camp retreat for youth 6-17years.
