About This Cause

Gohh Non-Profit Organization is a community-driven charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of Ethiopian and Eritrean seniors, as well as families with autistic children, in the Greater Toronto Area. Established by seniors, our organization focuses on breaking social isolation, fostering cultural connection, and providing critical support systems that empower individuals and strengthen our community. Who We Serve Our primary focus is on: Seniors – Many Ethiopian and Eritrean seniors in Canada face social isolation, language barriers, and a lack of culturally tailored services. We create inclusive spaces where they can engage, connect, and receive the support they need. Families with Autistic Children – Raising a child with autism comes with unique challenges, especially for immigrant families who may struggle to find culturally relevant resources and support networks. We provide guidance, community support, and advocacy to help these families navigate their journey. Our Programs & Initiatives We develop and host various programs designed to address the specific needs of our community, including: 1. Social and Cultural Engagement We organize community gatherings, cultural celebrations, and social events to foster a sense of belonging among seniors. These activities allow them to reconnect with their heritage, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships. Events like the Gohh Day Gala and senior trips to culturally significant locations (e.g., Niagara Falls) create joyful moments that combat loneliness. 2. Mental Health and Wellness Support Our programs focus on reducing isolation and promoting well-being through: Virtual and in-person exercise sessions tailored to seniors. Educational workshops on mental health, stress management, and healthy aging. Peer support groups that provide a safe space for discussions. 3. Support for Families with Autistic Children We provide a network of resources, advocacy, and emotional support to parents raising children with autism. Our programs include: Educational workshops on autism awareness. Peer-to-peer support groups for families. Information sessions on navigating healthcare, education, and social services. 4. Information and Resource Accessibility To ensure our community stays informed, we offer: In-person and online information sessions about available government and social services. Multilingual resources to bridge language barriers, making information more accessible to seniors. 5. Volunteer and Community Engagement Gohh Non-Profit Organization thrives on volunteerism and community involvement. We provide opportunities for individuals to give back by: Supporting seniors through companionship and assistance. Helping organize events and activities. Contributing skills in areas such as translation, event planning, and technology training. Impact and Achievements Successfully hosted four large-scale community events in the past year, each with 80+ attendees. Conducted community feedback sessions to assess unmet needs and tailored our programs accordingly. Secured donations and sponsorships to fund initiatives, including in-kind contributions from businesses and community members. Received a New Horizons for Seniors grant application submission, aimed at further expanding support services for seniors. How Donations Help As a grassroots organization, we rely on donations to sustain and expand our impact. Contributions help us: Cover event costs such as venue rentals, transportation, and refreshments. Provide educational materials and resources for families with autistic children. Offer more frequent and accessible wellness and mental health programs. Expand outreach efforts to ensure more seniors and families benefit from our services. Join Us in Making a Difference Through the support of donors, volunteers, and community partners, Gohh Non-Profit Organization is committed to creating a stronger, more connected community for Ethiopian and Eritrean seniors and families with autistic children.
