Mission Statement
Gems for Gems has identified the need to not only ease the pain created by the global epidemic of domestic abuse, but to do all within our power to end the cycle for as many women, and their children, as possible. Empowering these women to empower themselves ignites the spark needed to create lasting change. Through our initiatives, that spark grows into the fire used to light the way to a new life for all.
About This Cause
Gems for Gems is a solution focused organization. We seek to bring an end to the cycle of domestic abuse for as many women and children as possible. Our organizational compass points firmly toward economic recovery and empowerment for survivors of domestic abused and our impact reflects this. Our THRIVE series covers a focused range of critical topics which have the ability to either empower survivors to remain outside of the abusive relationship, or return to it should the support and knowledge be inaccessible. Those topics are: Financial literacy, self defense, psychological coping skills and resilience. Our Scholarship Program is also designed to provide economic recovery and empowerment with a few key elements. -We partner with schools who are willing to match our contribution (often doubling donor impact) as well as steward our students. The result is that the women we fund do not feel like 'just a number'. They have specific support and know the staff is their for them in the ways specific to their need. -We partner with schools who give a national certification so that our students may leave the province if they are in danger. -We partner only with schools who will educate and certify out women in under a year. The timing is perhaps the most critical of the three criteria as speed is crucial for so many of these women as they often are in direct or indirect danger throughout. Gems for Gems has an incredible ambassador program as well spanning across Canada and composed of men and women of all ages. Each one of out ambassadors seeks to support not only Gems for Gems but our mission in any way possible. They have what we call a 'livable commitment' to our organization which means the help when they can, how they can and where they can thus creating a commitment to our organization and cause which they do not bun out from. We have has tremendous success and we want to expand but we need your help.
