Our Mission To empower the poor and the marginalized especially women, children, and youth by providing them access to education, finance, health services, natural resources, marketing, and technological support and to explore the fullest human potential by creating opportunities for sustainable development and holistic transformation.
About This Cause
ESAF GLOBAL CANADA invests in the Lives of Marginalized Communities in South Asia, by enlightening their mind with Education, equipping their hands with Skills and Livelihood and Enabling them to have economic empowerment and access to basic Healthcare. ESAF GLOBAL CANADA has the benefit of being an offshoot of the ESAF India which was started as an NGO in India in 1992 and started organizing neighborhood women's self-help groups (SHGs) as early as 1994. ESAF GLOBAL CANADA has been leveraging the time-tested success of the sustainable development model of ESAF for 30 + years. ESAF GLOBAL CANADA aspires to be the connecting force that brings hope to the hopeless and less privileged through the creation of skill development and livelihood opportunities, education, and basic health care. ESAF GLOBAL CANADA envisages holistic transformation of the rural and tribal communities, anchored in sustainable economic uplift, and social and psychological empowerment, through an integrated livelihood intervention and multiple skill training. ESAF Global Canada’s mission includes helping children from marginalized communities to enjoy, a happy and healthy childhood. Our interventions are focused on providing holistic development of children through primary education, awareness of health and hygiene, access to better education opportunities, ensuring mental and physical fitness, etc. Our community-based child development strategy stresses building a child-friendly environment by equipping parents, teachers, and community leaders to build a conducive environment that will cater to the overall development of an individual. Employability and entrepreneurship: ESAF helps people, especially women and youth, to acquire the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to start and grow their businesses. ESAF provides training, mentoring, financial support, and market linkages to enable the participants to create sustainable income sources and employment opportunities. ESAF also promotes innovation and social entrepreneurship as a way to address the social and environmental challenges in their communities. Health and wellness: ESAF works to improve the health and well-being of the poor and marginalized, especially women and children, through holistic development interventions. Social and economic growth: ESAF aims to transform the lives of the poor and marginalized by addressing the root causes of poverty and inequality. ESAF empowers the participants to access and control the resources and opportunities that can improve their living standards and quality of life. ESAF also fosters social inclusion, gender equality, and human rights among the target groups. Skilling and livelihood: ESAF enables the poor and marginalized to enhance their skills and livelihoods by providing them with vocational training, career guidance, and job placement services. ESAF offers a range of courses and programs that cater to the needs and interests of the participants, such as agriculture, handicrafts, hospitality, beauty, and digital literacy. ESAF also helps the participants access credit, insurance, and social security schemes that can protect and improve their livelihoods. Education: ESAF supports the education and development of children and youth by providing them with quality and affordable education, from early childhood to higher education. ESAF runs community schools, learning centers, and scholarship programs that offer formal and non-formal education to the target groups. ESAF also enhances the capacity and motivation of the teachers, parents, and community leaders to create a conducive and child-friendly learning environment. Leadership development: ESAF nurtures the leadership potential of the poor and marginalized by providing them with leadership training, coaching, and mentoring. ESAF helps the participants to develop their personal, interpersonal, and professional skills that can enable them to lead themselves and others effectively. ESAF also creates platforms and networks for the participants to share their experiences, learn from each other, and collaborate for social change. ESAF also encourages the participants to become active citizens and agents of change in their communities. ESAF GLOBAL CANADA's Current Projects: Women of Wealth (WOW) : The project aims to help widows and single women and their households affected by the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka by providing them with business opportunities, grants, and market connections. The project also coaches the participants on how to save, manage, and plan their finances, so that they can improve their financial resilience and stability and avoid debt traps. Moreover, the project supports the children of the participants by offering them scholarships, mentoring, and better living environments, as well as by fostering community cohesion through self-help groups and networks. The project’s ultimate goal is to enable the beneficiaries to achieve economic independence, self-sufficiency, and social harmony. Healing Parks: Healing parks in Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC) areas, Sri Lanka, which suffered from the Civil War and its aftermath. The healing parks aim to restore the neglected green spaces and parks in Jaffna and transform them into community-oriented spaces that promote physical and mental health, environmental conservation, and social harmony
