Mission Statement
To transform and support the lives of sexually exploited and trafficked individuals and youth in Saskatchewan by making a measurable impact with those who are sexually exploited and trafficked through: education, partnerships, funding and programs.
About This Cause
Hope Restored Canada (HRC) is a Saskatchewan based non-profit charity that was founded in 2015/16 to support women and youth who had been targeted by sex traffickers and victimized by the sex industry. The mandate of HRC is to provide support for victims of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking, and to educate the general public and service providers about sexual exploitation and trafficking. The mandate is accomplished by: - Utilizing trauma-informed approaches and resiliency education that promotes and nurtures healthy relationships; - Championing basic human rights; - Responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action; and - Working alongside individuals and organizations to raise awareness and collectively challenge the harmful impacts of sexual exploitation and trafficking. HRC is governed by a volunteer board who represent the diverse make-up of the community of Saskatoon. The board works closely with the Executive Director and Program Director who oversee the operations and programming HRC provides. The primary program offered is the HRC recovery program. The program’s objective is to address the profound recovery needs that sexually exploited and trafficked youth and women have as they exit their lives of abuse. This program focuses on each individual reaching stabilization and developing personal resilience as they continue their personal health and wellness journey. A need and demand study conduted for HRC by the Saskatchewan Housing Initiatives Partnership (2016) identified that “the current housing market, shelter system, and nature of transitional housing in Saskatchewan’s urban centres do not fully accommodate women and girls who are at-risk or victims of the crime” of sex trafficking. This study identified that “efforts are necessary to create more housing initiatives that are fully inclusive to the needs of victims in order to support healthy choices and fulfilling lives.” The most vulnerable victims are those who are homeless and require housing while transitioning to a healthy life. Therefore, to address this need, HRC, in 2019, with the support of the Lighthouse Supported Living Saskatoon, established a private residence for survivors of human trafficking and/or sexual exploitation. The house has six bedrooms, two offices for case planning and meetings, and a classroom for workshops and therapeutic programs. It provides a safe and comfortable residence for personal recovery and renewal through programming and support offered by qualified professionals to meet the individual needs of residents as they exit their lives of abuse and trauma. Extensive, individualized programming includes cultural support, counseling, addiction and mental health support, a variety of therapeutic activities and life and work skills.
