About This Cause

Today the Foundation is working to improve lives through several initiatives, including the independent Athletes Combating Racism initiative (www.athletescombatingracism.org), through which athletes, along with community education, health, and wellness organizations, come together to work with racialized and marginalized youth to bring about effective change and eliminate systemic racism. More about Athletes Combating Racism (ACR): Website: www.athletescombatingracism.org Instagram: @athletescombatingracism Mission Statement: Our mission is to combat systemic racism by being a consistent partner in the community and providing equal opportunities to all youth. Established in 2020, Athletes Combating Racism is a regional funding program with a multifaceted approach to take action in our community. For ACR, it’s all about creating a fun, safe, nurturing and vibrant atmosphere and experience for all youth in our community. ACR has initiated four programs designed to combat racism and provide equal opportunities for youth in our communities. They are: 1.) Athlete Mentorship: This program is designed to combat racism by providing mentorship and guidance to youth and young adults to help them navigate the world around them in spite of structural racism, and ultimately dismantle those structures. What is the Goal? The mentorship program focuses on connecting youth with a mentor that can help create their path to success by assisting in shaping a set of tailored personal and/or professional goals. The program aims to connect mentors with youth on a personal level and intends to foster real conversations on the various parts of an individual that make them uniquely themselves, including their race in the context of the environment they are in and realities they are facing. 2.) Midnight Movement: Providing a safe space for youth of all backgrounds to come together to have fun, learn, and build relationships with mentors from the ACR community through activities such as: sports games, keynote speaking events, skill-building, and art activities. What is the Goal? The goal of the Midnight Movement initiative is to provide the opportunity for male and female youth to participate in activities aimed at fostering growth, confidence, community, and inclusivity. While participating in the various activities, Athletes Combating Racism aims to engage a diverse community to address and combat racism. 3.) School Tutoring: The tutoring program is an on-going program for youth in the community to receive one-on-one tutoring with a variety of academic subjects with a paired tutor. The tutoring program will also operate in part with the mentorship program. What is the Goal? The goal of the Tutoring initiative is to provide a safe space for youth to receive academic support for a variety of subjects while building relationships with mentors from the Athletes Combating Racism community. ACR believes tailored and personalized support from trusted mentors/tutors can contribute to academic success. 4.) Field Trips: Field trips for youth in the community, organized and led by Athletes Combating Racism leaders and mentors. The goal is to provide an opportunity for youth to have fun and to get accustomed to the idea of embracing new experiences. What is the Goal? The goal is to provide an opportunity for youth to have fun and to get accustomed to the idea of embracing new experiences. We are aiming to create a space where youth can build meaningful connections with their age-group peers from different backgrounds as well as Athletes Combating Racism leaders and mentors.
