About This Cause
In any given year, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health or addiction challenge. Amongst the population of people with disabilities, those with a mental health issue face the highest degree of stigmatization in the workplace, and the greatest barriers to employment (CMHA). And yet, for people living with a mental illness or addiction, employment brings stability and opportunities for well-being and can promote recovery. Entrepreneurship is one solution, as it offers individuals the opportunity to re-enter the workplace on their own terms. As entrepreneurs, people can experience pride of ownership while having the flexibility and control to structure their business around their health needs. Rise is a national charity that empowers Canadians with mental health and addiction challenges to achieve greater economic and social inclusion through entrepreneurship training, small business loans and custom supports. Rise strengthens communities by unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit of all Canadians with mental health challenges. Since 2010, Rise has financed, trained, mentored and coached over 2000 entrepreneurs disbursing over $ 3 million in over 800 small loans. Our programs enable clients to hone their skills, achieve their goals and live their dreams. We know what we do works, 4 of 5 Rise clients are still in business 5-years after receiving a Rise loan.
