About This Cause
The YMCA is committed to strengthening the foundations of community by: Helping children and families thrive, Promoting healthy living and Fostering belonging and connection. We are building a community in which a generation of children and families reach their full potential. Charity Description: YMCA BC is the result of the unification of YMCA of Northern BC, YMCA-YWCA of Kamloops and YMCA of Greater Vancouver. Families, children, and seniors in communities from Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley to Prince George and Vanderhoof and Kamloops, British Columbia, all have the opportunity to belong, grow, thrive and lead through YMCA BC. We are part of an international and national movement that has brought lasting social change for over 136 years; we’ve cared for children, shaped leaders for tomorrow and helped generations of people come together to find support, get healthier and make friends for life. Together we create vibrant and healthy communities with a shared sense of social responsibility, where children and families can thrive and experience better health in spirit, mind and body. As one association with one mission to strengthen our impact for communities across British Columbia, YMCA BC combines the strength of each association and collectively we’re able to achieve more with more, together. YMCA BC strengthens the foundation of community by helping children and families thrive; promoting healthy living; and fostering belonging and connection. The YMCA serves the community by being responsive, relevant and by delivering a positive impact. The YMCA is an Imagine Canada standard organization, we care about raising healthy and resilient kids, and we strive to ensure youth feel confident and supported. The YMCA is the largest provider of child care in the province and heavily invest in programs for youth: we provide youth mental health services, employment services, and school-based programs. We also deliver immigrant services, such as English language learning, at risk youth programs and we are involved in global initiatives and chronic disease management. Today, as BC’s largest social charity, we work with hundreds of community partners across the region in over 250 loations to improve the lives of the people living in our communities. Our organization has 2,000 volunteers and staff to support more than 125,000 children, youth and adults across the province. We help those who are vulnerable, promote healthy living, and reduce isolation. We are determined to help create a community where we share a sense of social responsibility; experience better health; and where children and families can thrive. This is the community we want.
