About This Cause

In October 2019, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) will celebrate a century of caring for people with mental illness. This 100 year anniversary is an incredible milestone and we are looking forward to celebrating with our donors, clients, volunteers and exceptional and passionate staff. The current hospital's 550,000 square foot facility opened in 1996, designed with eight interconnected buildings, separated by accessible courtyards and linked by a 1,400 foot interior corridor. We serve a population of 2.8 million people across Ontario and within our primary service areas: East and Northeast Toronto and municipalities of Durham, York, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Northumberland and Peterborough Counties. Ontario Shores has 18 Patient Care Units, 346 beds and over 85,000 outpatient visits annually. Our services and treatment programs across include Adolescents, Adolescent Mental Health Eating Disorders, Dual Diagnosis, Forensics, Geriatric, Neuropsychiatry, and Assessment and Reintegration. Ontario Shores practices a recovery model of care - the Shared Journey, based on the principles of empowerment, hope, recovery, collaboration, teamwork and inspiration. We are a public teaching hospital providing a range of specialized assessment and treatment services to those living with complex and serious mental illness. Patients benefit from a recovery-oriented environment of care built on compassion, inspiration and hope. Ontario Shores Foundation’s fundraising is driven by the belief that Ontario Shores’ mental health care, treatment, programs and services fill a key need in today’s society. Community support is crucial to funding Ontario Shores’ ongoing innovation, research and teaching, mental illness awareness and stigma reduction programs and mental health promotion as well as the renovation and building of recovery-focused spaces. Our donors are helping address mental health issues on local, provincial and national levels.
