Mission Statement
LOVE Nova Scotia is a violence prevention and intervention organization that works with youth who have experienced violence, as witnesses, victims, or perpetrators. The goal of LOVE's programs is to provide youth with the skills, support and confidence they need to make positive and healthy life choices and develop into strong, independent leaders.
About This Cause
At LOVE, we address violence as something that is learned and cyclical, working with victims, perpetrators, and witnesses. LOVE youth have defined violence as "anything that hurts." This allows us to address a broad range of issues, such as poverty, homelessness, involvement in the justice system, mental health, addiction, self-harm, suicidal ideation, abuse, sexual violence, bullying/cyberbullying, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and any other issues our youth bring up. The essence of what LOVE does lies in running high quality, youth-driven programs, accompanied by the one-on-one, individual support our youth need from us. LOVE believes in being responsive and adaptable to the communities we are serving, which means we have been able to take our work into a variety of contexts, including in-school and after-school programs, programs in First Nations communities, and across the globe, through our partnership with Coalition For Kids International. Our Leadership Programs give youth the skills, knowledge, and confidence to educate their peers and communities about violence prevention, conducting and designing community outreach activities for a broad range of audiences.
