Mission Statement
The Calgary Police Youth Foundation, in collaboration with the Calgary Police Service and other community partners, supports youth programming in Calgary which provides wrap around support to individuals who are at risk of criminal involvement or of becoming victims of crime. Through education, prevention, early intervention and risk reduction strategies, those who need our help the most have the resources they need to stay safe.
About This Cause
The Calgary Police Youth Foundation (CPYF) is a registered charity committed to keeping vulnerable and at-risk children and youth safe from victimization and crime. We help fund seven unique child and youth programs delivered by the Calgary Police Service and other community partners that provide critical education, prevention, early intervention and risk reduction resources to thousands of children and youth annually. We believe that by reaching our young people at an early age, we can ensure that they receive the support they need to successfully live a life free of crime. Together, we are forging a promising future where our children and youth can thrive and become responsible, caring and productive citizens. What 'exactly' does the CPYF do? Our current programs include: Calgary Police Cadet Corps: This is a leadership-focused program engaging 12 - 18 year old youth in progressive team building and community modules, leading to significant individual growth and interpersonal skills. Bridges to Brighter Futures - Building Communities is a child and youth crime prevention, education and intervention Program which includes multiple and targeted community engagement initiatives led by the Calgary Police Service in collaboration with the Calgary Police Youth Foundation. The commonality among all initiatives is that there is an opportunity for children, youth, and their families to connect with the Calgary Police Service in a positive way in the communities where they live. Below is a brief description of each initiative approved for inclusion in the 2022 Bridges for Brighter Futures Program. The Integrated School Support Program (ISSP) ISSP addresses a variety of needs within ethnically, culturally and economically diverse schools and community groups. ISSP creates a supportive environment in which children aged 5 - 12 are encouraged and empowered to attain personal success and self confidence, both academically and socially. The Multi-Agency School Support Team (MASST) MASST is an early intervention program that supports children and youth up to 12 years of age who may be putting themselves at risk of criminal involvement, or at risk of being victimised. With an eye on gangs, drugs, bullying and cyber dangers, children are supported and encouraged to find and use positive resources to keep safe and thrive. Power Play This program provides Calgary’s vulnerable or disadvantaged youth with healthy skating activities for the critical after-school hours – the time youth are most likely to be tempted by high-risk, criminal behaviour. Soccer games and drills in the summer serve the same purpose, providing year round opportunities to play, develop skills and connect. Youth at Risk Development (YARD) YARD is a responsive and comprehensive approach to the early identification and appropriate intervention with youth, ages 12 to 17, who are at risk of initiation into gangs, who may already exhibit some level of gang involvement, or who have already become involved in other criminal activity. YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre YouthLink Calgary has engaged with 10's of thousands of Calgary's Grade 6 and other students, showing all how to make positive and safe choices surrounding challenges they may face every day: substance abuse, bullying, gangs, online safety, domestic abuse, and how to recognize and build on healthy relationships in their lives. CPYF also strives to support and partner with other community initiatives in Calgary and area which fill the objective of helping children and youth be physically, mentally and emotionally safe. The donation you make, the support you provide, whether a little, whether a lot, is, in terms of our young people's lives, totally priceless. THANK YOU!
