Mission Statement
A place of information, discussion and support for people living with Parkinson's disease and caregivers.Parkinson Outaouais is a group of people living with Parkinson's disease, and caregivers. Free membership provides support and comfort, as well as participation in physical, social, informational and educational activities. Parkinson Outaouais makes every effort to: Provide members and those around them with access to means and services that can meet their needs; Contribute to building a world without Parkinson's, through research, and to nourish the hope of people with the disease and their caregivers. Promote health by offering adapted physical activities and providing access to information likely to improve their condition; Relieve isolation (support groups and social activities); Distribute funds for research to qualified donees. Parkinson Outaouais advocates five organizational values that guide its decisions, actions and behaviors. All members of Parkinson Outaouais are invited to adhere to the following values: Respect for the people we help, brothers and sisters at work, volunteers and partners. Integrity in all actions taken by members. Fairness in the decisions taken for all user members. Mutual Aid of the Human Forces of Parkinson Outaouais maximizing its role within the community. Daily and long-term commitment to the well-being of its user members. In order to fulfill its mission, Parkinson Outaouais holds activities under three headings: • Activities related to the operation and development of Parkinson Outaouais • Activities related to health promotion • Activities to alleviate the isolation of people living with the disease and that of caregivers. Partnerships and collaborations In 2021, we maintained our collaborations with the City of Gatineau in order to have access to our premises of the Saint-Jean-De-Brébeuf Community Center for our weekly activities and for other premises for certain occasional activities. Collaboration with the Brotherhood of City Policemen de Gatineau also continued to house our offices. In the organization of our activities, we have also collaborated with: • The University of Quebec in Outaouais and Jessica Saumure, kinesiologist for the aqua course form ; • The Hull senior center for the support group for caregivers and the café meet ; • The Parkinson Québec coordinating committee for documentation, online activities, exchanges of best practices and support to all regions. Committee meetings the grouping of regions for the sharing of knowledge in order to improve the offer of service throughout Quebec; • Resource for referrals and integration days; • Abdelhak Kamal, Tai Chi and Qi Gong teacher for muscle stretching classes; • Benoit Lebel, kinesiologist for muscle strengthening classes; • Sophie Richer for the physiotherapy sessions; • Josée Poirier Defoy, director of the group of collective kitchens of Gatineau for the conference and cookie-making workshop; • Karate Gauthier for the loan of the room; • Marie-France Carrisse, counseling therapist with ANDC MD, for conferences; • The Trocao for the transmission of information; • Mélissa Joubarne, head of the CISSSO reception desk, for the presentation on the Home Care. Fundraising Each year, Parkinson Outaouais organizes fundraising activities. During the last year, respecting health guidelines, we had the opportunity to organize two events namely the Parcours Parkinson and the Christmas fruit cake sale. Parcours Parkinson is the most important fundraising activity for Parkinson Outaouais. Organized by a dedicated team of volunteers, the Parcours is also a festive event. allowing our members to take up a challenge by walking 1 or 5 km. In 2021, as in 2020, the organizing committee had to adjust by organizing a course encouraging members to walk in their sector while respecting the health instructions. Under the theme Moving is life, giving is hope, the course has raised nearly $30,000, thanks to the commitment of members. Donations Whether by cheque, cash or through the CANADON platform, we receive many donations that contribute to the maintenance of services and activities for all those who are affected by Parkinson's disease. It is also essential to mention that thanks to fundraising and donations collected, Parkinson Outaouais contributes to research by granting substantial amounts to two institutes of research either the Fonds de recherche Québécois sur le Parkinson and the Parkinson Research Consortium from the Ottawa Hospital.
About This Cause
1. Name and Incorporation. This corporation, known and designated under the name of SOCIÉTÉ PARKINSON DE L’OUTAOUAIS is incorporated as a non-profit organization according to the third part of the Companies Act (Quebec) dated July 11, 2013, under registration number 1169305407. Following the disaffiliation of Parkinson Québec from Parkinson Canada on July 1, 2015, the Outaouais Parkinson Society is now designated as PARKINSON OUTAOUAIS on August 12, 2015. 2. Registered office. The head office of the corporation is established in the city of Gatineau, at all place determined by the board of directors of the corporation. 3. Goals. In accordance with its letters patent, the goals pursued by the corporation are the following: For purely charitable purposes and without the intention of pecuniary gain for its members, Parkinson Outaouais aims to improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s in the Outaouais region as well as their caregivers. To achieve this goal, Parkinson Outaouais is committed to: Promote health by providing people with Parkinson’s disease with physical activities adapted to their conditions and making it possible to reduce their level of pain as well as by giving them access to information likely to to improve their condition Ease the isolation of people suffering from conditions associated with dementia Parkinson’s disease through support groups, social, informational and educational Remitting funds to qualified donees as defined in subsection 149.1(1) the Income Tax Act (Canada), including Parkinson Québec, Parkinson Canada or any other registered research charity for the benefit of people with Parkinson's disease. Parkinson Outaouais offers activities and services including physiotherapy sessions, muscle strengthening and stretching classes and aqua fitness classes. The organization also offers sharing, support and information workshops for people with cancer and their caregivers, in addition to various social activities. 2. ACTIVITIES RELATED TO HEALTH PROMOTION Like all community organizations, Parkinson Outaouais has adapted to the situation pandemic by innovating in its service delivery and applying health measures in particular the obligation of the vaccination passport, the wearing of the mask and an attendance list. After the cancellation of several of our activities in 2020, the board of directors wished to resume activities via zoom, then face-to-face when the situation allowed. Stretching exercises: Every week, from January to June and from September to december. The course is offered to people with cancer and caregivers. Lessons held via zoom for the months of January to June and resumed in attendance at from September. Muscle Strengthening: Like stretching exercises, muscle strengthening is held at every week for people with cancer and caregivers. Classes were given via zoom at from April to June then face-to-face from September to June. Aqua fitness: Thanks to a collaboration with the University of Quebec in Outaouais, we offered aqua fitness classes for people with cancer and caregivers from September to december. Physiotherapy: In order to encourage our members to move more and above all to move better, we have collaborated with a physiotherapist to offer a program of 5 weeks including an individual assessment followed by 4 therapy sessions one hour group. One theme per week: Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom sleeping, outdoor life in winter. The key principles and targeted exercises aim to help members on a daily basis. Three groups were able to benefit from these virtual sessions in March and may. Then a face-to-face group in October. We also offered 2 physiotherapy sessions for those who had already done the program but who wanted to revise the key principles and perfect the targeted exercises. It's monthly October face-to-face that the activity took place. 3. ACTIVITIES TO RELIEVE THE ISOLATION OF PEOPLE WHO LIVE WITH THE DISEASE AND THAT OF FAMILY CAREGIVERS Via the zoom platform, members were able to participate in these conferences aimed at acquiring knowledge, skills and competences, to identify certain difficulties to which the person is confronted with, promote support, mutual aid and exchange with other people living a similar situation and experience quality time, relational presence and support that is nourishing for each participant. Meeting: A coffee break with us. On January 22 from 10 to 11 a.m., we invited members to a virtual meeting aimed at introducing the members of the Board, reviewing the members and taking their news and meet new members. A meeting to chat about everything and nothing. The meeting also aimed to take note of members' suggestions and respond to their Questions. An appointment to mark the feast of friendship and love: Valentine's Day: This meeting via zoom also aimed to hear from our members. They became friends and created valuable links. What could be better than celebrating the holiday of friendship and love with a date between us. Once again, members had the opportunity to share their suggestions with us. of activities. Reading Club. A few times a year, participants meet (by zoom or face-to-face) to discuss a work proposed by a member of the group. Discussions go beyond simple summary and general appreciation and relate to the point of view of the author, the structure and the style of the work. Meetings last approximately 60 minutes. In 2021, club members met at 4 occasions. Presentation of collective kitchens. On November 25, the director of the kitchen group collectives of Gatineau came to explain how a collective kitchen works and to consult the members about the interest in participating in such an activity. The objective was to plan a cooking activity together in the following weeks. Coffee meeting for caregivers: Under the theme Talking to talk over coffee, it's 7 October that this meeting was held to discuss the challenges of caregiving. The speakers of the Center d’entraide aux aînés de Hull are invaluable collaborators for this activity. Group of caregivers: A collaborative project with the Hull Seniors Center made it possible to set up a group for caregivers including 6 meetings. The participants had very positive comments both on the content and on the animation. Christmas dinner (restaurant): About 35 people came to take part in the Christmas dinner. Christmas. It was a great opportunity for many to renew friendships and break isolation. Introduction to Zoom: In order to support members in their participation in virtual activities, we offered zoom initiation workshops. One-on-one technology learning and practice were greatly appreciated. In addition to 2 group workshops we also did several individual sessions. Support for members. We regularly receive requests for information and support either people living with the disease, caregivers or people working with people affected by the disease. We offer this support to the best of our abilities and refer to our partners when relevant. However, it seems essential to us to develop a support service psychosocial and to hire a resource for this service. ABOUT THE MEMBERS THE MEMBERS 5. Categories. The corporation has two (2) categories of members, namely: active members and honorary members. 6. Active Members. Any resident of the Outaouais region can submit an application to become an active member by completing a membership form, whether a person with Parkinson's disease, a caregiver or interested in getting involved as a volunteer. All active members are voting members of Parkinson Outaouais. Active members have the right to receive notices of meetings of members, to attend these meetings and to vote there and to receive any other information disseminated by the corporation or its partners. They are eligible as directors of the corporation. 7. Honorary members. An honorary member is any person, organization, institution or company that shares the objectives of the corporation and agrees to associate its name, its reputation or influence to that of the corporation. The board of directors has the power to appoint or remove honorary members. 8. Resignation. Any resignation of a member must be sent by letter to the secretary of the corporation. 9. Suspension and expulsion. The Board of Directors may, by resolution, suspend for a period that it determines or even permanently remove any member who violates the by-laws of the corporation, or who commits an act deemed contrary or harmful to the goals sued by the corporation However, before pronouncing the suspension or the expulsion of the member, the council of directors must inform the member in writing of the reasons invoked for his suspension or deregistration and give him the opportunity to be heard before taking his decision. Any procedure must ensure the confidentiality of the debates, preserve the reputation of the person(s) involved. The decision of the board of directors is final and without appeal. MEMBERS' MEETINGS 10. Membership. The general assembly is made up of all the members of the corporation. 4 11. Annual meeting. The annual meeting of members is held within one hundred and twenty (120) days following the end of the fiscal year of the corporation, on the date and at the place fixed by the board of directors. For any annual meeting, the agenda must contain, in particular, the points following: 1. Adoption of the minutes of the last meeting; 2. The presentation of the annual report of activities; 3. Presentation of financial statements; 4. Appointment of auditors; 5. Election of members of the organization as directors to the board administration. BOARD OF DIRECTORS 16. Eligibility. Only active members are eligible as directors of the corporation. Employees of the corporation cannot hold directorships. The persons of the same family or spouses cannot be members of the executive at the same time. Outgoing directors are eligible for re-election.
