Mission Statement

Since 2005, Be the Change Earth Alliance (BTCEA) has been committed to its mission of inspiring, educating, and empowering youth to take personal and collective action for a just, sustainable, and resilient world. BTCEA’s current strategic goals include: bringing our environmental education into every school district in BC through collaborative relationships with district and teacher champions; making holistic and action-oriented eco-social education the new norm in BC; and providing meaningful and empowering student workshops and mentorship opportunities to encourage student agency and self-efficacy, primarily in middle and secondary schools.

About This Cause

BTCEA's flagship program, Student Leadership for Change (SLC), aims to empower teachers to engage their students in action-oriented, hope-inspiring environmental education. SLC learning resources and workshops have reached over 1,500 teachers and 36,000 students, who have collectively taken over 150,000 actions and diverted over 800 tonnes of CO2. BTCEA supplements SLC with Professional Development training for teachers, classroom workshops for students, and mentorship programs for youth teams. BTCEA is a “for youth, by youth” organization led by a diverse staff and volunteer team of youth below the age of 30. We listen and respond to the needs of BC youth and teachers, regularly seeking feedback, insight, and guidance from consultations, surveys, and focus groups. BTCEA’s advisory committee on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion guides our team in integrating social justice and Indigenous perspectives into our programs and organizational culture and policy.
