Manitoba Underdogs Rescue

Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M 5M3 Canada

Mission Statement

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, care for, and ultimately seek out permanent and loving homes for Manitoba dogs. In addition to this, we partner with First Nations communities to empower responsible dog ownership and welfare through education, support, and vet services.

About This Cause

On a typical stormy Manitoba summer night in July 2011, our first Underdog Annie was found abandoned and scared on the side of a northern highway. She was immediately brought to a veterinary hospital and unfortunately tested positive for Heartworm and Lyme disease. A garage sale was organized by our fearless leaders to cover the costs of Annie’s treatment. From this one act of rescue, Manitoba Underdogs was born! We care for an average of 80 dogs at any given time and every Underdog is placed in a foster home. We handle an average of 20-25 adoptions monthly and operate solely on generosity of donors. Our values include but are not limited to: - working alongside northern and remote communities to help dogs in need. - providing the highest level of foster and veterinary care to all dogs in our care. - maintaining a safe and welcoming community for our volunteers, fosters, adopters and partners. - providing advice and support to fosters and adopters with the goal of maintaining successful relationships between dog and owner. - partnering with local organizations to help humanely manage the dog population in northern Manitoba.
