Mission Statement
To support children and their families through education and nutritional programming that nurtures their potential. Kids Lunch Club – Overview Purpose: To provide a healthy, free lunch daily to elementary school children who may be experiencing food security issues.
About This Cause
Elementary school children from various priority schools from both co-terminus boards benefit from the Kids Lunch Club or Lockdown Lunch Box program. Priority schools have children who suffer from food insecurities and do not have a source of nourishment during the school day. The Kids Lunch Club is currently operational in seven (7) elementary schools in Brantford, Ontario. The Kids Lunch Club program supports vulnerable children by providing nutritional education and access to nutritious food. Recipients of the Kids Lunch Club program are the population suffering from food insecurities and are the ones who do not have a source of nourishment during the school day. The impact of providing daily nutrition to children have positive outcomes. Some proven outcomes include lower absenteeism, positive impacts on student behaviour, focus and attention which ultimately impacts academics as well as positively affecting mental health and well-being (i.e. looking forward to food security and improved health & food security, which alleviates stress on families.) The Kids Lunch Club program contributes to improving overall levels of community and human development. Child Hunger Brantford also maintains a community garden that benefits the youth attending the elementary school where it is located but also the surrounding community. The school has implemented the garden into the students curriculum and the students use the garden plants and herbs as ingredients for an after school (when allowed) cooking program.
