Mission Statement

Education, leadership, psychosocial support, gender equity, HIV/AIDS in southern Africa for 15,000 girls, orphans, children, youth & grandmothers annually.

About This Cause

We work only in rural communities in the southern African country of Lesotho. Lesotho is one of the poorest countries in the world: 25% of people are HIV-positive and 86% of girls and women have experienced gender-based violence. Orphaned, vulnerable children and youth need support and guidance to grow up as healthy, productive members of society. AIDS has decimated the working and parental generation, leaving children and youth without role models or positive influencers. We are empowering a critical mass of children and youth with the knowledge and support needed for them to lead a movement that: - advocates for social justice, particularly the rights of girls and women, in pursuit of gender equity; - promotes the prevention of HIV transmission; and - champions and challenges all involved to make healthy decisions and be socially responsible. Individuals develop: - Confidence and self-esteem - Knowledge, skills and motivation - Leadership to create a better future for themselves and their communities And then they create positive social change: - Reduced HIV transmission and more people living positively - Increased gender equity as both men and women respect women’s rights - Multigenerational ripple effect of role models with positive attitudes and behaviours - A critical mass of critical thinkers. All programs are embedded with HIV/AIDS and gender equity education with the goal of building self-reliance and community leadership. We leverage our impact by building like-minded partnerships and local capacity in Lesotho. Programs include health education, HIV/AIDS prevention education, psychosocial support, grandmother support, child sponsorship, school partnerships, leadership training and development, gender equity, and literacy. We believe that anyone, regardless of their circumstances, can be a leader and make a difference in their communities. Everyone who benefits from our programs is expected to share what they learn with others to multiply the impact of these vital lessons. The results are immediate: a better life now and the promise of a better future for the children of the next generation.
