Mission Statement

The Greenbelt Foundation is dedicated to promoting and sustaining the Greenbelt as a vital, valuable, and permanent safeguard for our future that enhances the quality of life for all residents of Ontario.

About This Cause

On February 28, 2005, the Ontario Government established a provincial greenbelt, adding one million acres of farmland and environmentally sensitive areas to the already protected Niagara Escarpment and Oak Ridges Moraine. Now a world-class model for preservation, Ontario’s Greenbelt is the largest of its kind, spanning almost 2 million acres of protected forest, farmlands, and wetlands, and continues to grow. Shortly after the Greenbelt’s creation, the Greenbelt Foundation was established. A non-profit organization, the Foundation operates independently from the government to coordinate and fund activities that bolster the richness of life in the Greenbelt. Since 2005, we have invested and leveraged more than $47 million into farming, environmental protection, and tourism projects to make the Greenbelt a great place to live, work, play, and grow.
