Mission Statement
GEARS is a charitable non-profit with the goal of re-homing abandoned, stray, or otherwise unwanted animals in the Edmonton Area. We promote responsible pet ownership and have high standards in our adoption process and take the welfare of our animals first into consideration.
About This Cause
The Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) was formed in 2013 to help injured, abandoned, unwanted, and homeless animals in the Edmonton area. Compassion motivates us to help, heal, and alleviate the pain of the animals we encounter. GEARS is a non-profit organization that relies on a network of volunteers and foster homes working together to give companion animals a second chance at their forever family. With high standards of practice and charitable status, GEARS sets an example in the community, for companion animal welfare and rescue. The GEARS community started with a group of people who had shared social values centered on animal welfare and wellness. Volunteers and foster homes are the crucial links between the hungry, hurt, scared animal on the street and their warm, new forever home. The GEARS community now extends much further than our homes and neighbourhoods; it includes partner organizations, adoptive families, and partner community families. GEARS endeavours to change all that is within our power and our power is great. Not only do we change the lives of the animals in our care, the animals we encounter, and the families we meet, but they change us. Together, we can change the world. If you’re looking for a new family member, GEARS might have one for you! Our application process is easy but thorough. We care about where our animals are going, and want to give them the best chance of a successful match. We provide our animals with a spay or neuter, up to date vaccinations, microchips, health checks by one of our great partner vets, and provide our adopters with a post-adoption support group so you can ask questions or share your happily ever after photos.
