Mission Statement
The Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education (DLC) is dedicated to educating the hearts of children and youth. We do so by informing, inspiring, and engaging adults who work with and care for young people with the most current evidence-informed practices and knowledge in social emotional learning.
About This Cause
Cofounded with the Dalai Lama in 2005, the DLC is a secular, non-political, not-for-profit organization. The DLC believes in nurturing positive human qualities like compassion and mindfulness in children and youth through heart-centred learning environments, to support their social and emotional development and ability to lead healthy, fulfilling, peaceful lives. The DLC's role is to translate research that will advance both the knowledge and practice of heart-mind well-being into action, through community-based programs and online initiatives, including Heart-Mind Online, a free, evidence-informed resource website for those who work with and care for children and youth. By sharing scientific knowledge and best practices, the Dalai Lama Center supports the adults who can help children feel secure and calm, approach situations with curiosity and confidence, solve problems peacefully, and get along with others. Thanks to our donors, last year alone we impacted over 300,000 young people in our communities. By nurturing the social emotional development and mental health of children and youth, together we galvanize systemic change, creating a more peaceful and compassionate society.
