Mission Statement
Majengo Children's Home provides food, clothing, education, and love to vulnerable children in Tanzania who have nowhere else to turn.
About This Cause
Majengo Canada (MC), a registered Canadian charity, has been in operation since 2008. MC aims to raise funds for the many programs being run through MCH. Each program is designed to help support the growth, development and independence of the children and families enrolled in them. Currently there are over 249 children participating in Majengo’s programs, with 71 children receiving full comprehensive care and housing at Majengo’s home. Additionally, over the last 2 years, Majengo has successfully broadened its programming to include many more at-risk families who have been deeply impacted by the pandemic. This has included programs such as food subsidy initiatives, vaccination programs, PPE initiatives, and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programs. By providing care and services aligned with the UNDP Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are driven by the UNDP’s principle of “leaving no one behind,” Majengo has made a significant contribution to improving the lives and prospects of the children and families it serves. In the local language of Swahili, Majengo means “to build”. This is exactly what Majengo aims to do in the surrounding community. MC and MCH work together to foster an environment in which the children will thrive. The children are nurtured, well-fed, clothed, and loved. They receive medical care and, where possible, they remain bonded to their relatives. Majengo’s goal is to help the children in its programs become self-reliant adults who will be equipped to escape the cycle of poverty. We are proud of our innovative, locally-run, and sustainable model of educational and community development in East Africa.
